The kitchen has always been (and probably always will be) the heart of the home. So picking the prefect tiles for your dream space is by no means a snap decision, especially when you consider the hundreds of styles and colours that you have to choose from!

1. Determine where the tiles will go.

This might seem like an obvious starting point, but you’re not going to tile the whole kitchen from top to bottom! Understanding exactly the areas that will be tiled is vital, not just from a quantity perspective. Knowing the exact areas that will be tiled will help you choose the size, texture and colour of your kitchen tiles based on the lighting, size of the area and surrounding items (such as cupboards etc.) Having the exact space mapped out from day one will make choosing your perfect tiles, that much easier.

2. Set your budget.

There are so many different styles of kitchen tiles available to you, there would be nothing worse than falling in love with a tile that ends up being out of your price range. Setting a budget first will reduce the chances of this happening.

3. Consider your lifestyle.

All tiles are resilient, but some require up-keep and the longevity of each tile material will vary. For example, countertop tiles can be made in ceramic as this material can cope with hot pans and it’s really easy to clean. However ceramic tiles do tend to have an uneven surface which is more prone to cracks and chips and is perhaps less suitable for some lifestyles than others.

4. To colour or not to colour, that is the question!

Some spaces are perfect for making a bold statement, others aren’t. Understanding your kitchen space will help you make the decision as to whether to colour or not. Size is normally the biggest deciding factor when choosing a colour for your tiles, if you have a small space using bright, light colours will help make that space look more generous. On the flip side if you have a large kitchen then you can get away with darker shades.
